| |JULY 20264India's deep tech ecosystem is entering a new phase of growth, driven by advances in artificial intelligence, space technology, semiconductors, biotechnology, robotics, climate technology, and advanced manufacturing. Unlike conventional technology startups that focus on digital platforms or software, deep tech companies build solutions rooted in scientific research and engineering innovation, often requiring longer development cycles but offering the potential for significant technological and economic impact.Today, India is home to more than 4,200 deep tech startups, with over 550 new ventures launched in 2025 alone. Despite a cautious global investment climate, funding in the sector grew by 37% year-on-year to approximately $2.3 billion. Artificial intelligence has emerged as the clear growth engine, accounting for 84% of deep tech startups and 91% of total sector funding. The momentum reflects more than just increased investment. A growing network of research institutions, startup incubators, government initiatives, and venture capital firms is helping bridge the gap between laboratory research and commercial innovation. As Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani remarked, "India is firmly positioned in the global AI race and is now focused on scaling its national AI initiatives." His observation captures the broader shift underway: India is no longer just adopting advanced technologies but increasingly developing them. With a strong talent base, expanding research capabilities, and a supportive innovation ecosystem, the country's deep tech sector is well placed to become a key driver of long-term economic growth and global competitiveness. The July edition of the CIOInsider magazine delves into the rise of India's Deep Tech sector. From covering government initiatives supporting Indian Deep Tech companies to highlighting young startups disrupting the space, the current magazine edition deep dives into India's Deep Tech sector.Read on and let us know your thoughts.
