| |November 20188O ver the last few weeks, the conver-sations between my DBS relation-ship manager and me have been on closing the relationship and not growing it. This, while Euromoney has named DBS as world's best dig-ital bank in 2016 and 2018 and DBS has been going through a massive Digital Transformation for the past few years. I wonder, why? Digital Transformation- Technology ImplementationDigital Transformation does not equal implementing technology. It is much more than that. As much it in-volves integrating digital technology across business functions and changing how businesses operate in-ternally and interact with the customers externally, it also means a significant culture shift across all levels of the organization. Here is my take on what it takes to chart the Digital Trans-formation journey:Build the Core Digitize EverythingA complete digital transforma-tion cannot focus only on exter-nal processes to be digitized and hope to run on legacy processes and systems internally. Digitiza-tion has to reach the very core of the organization. Manufacturing processes, payment processing, inventory management, HR pro-cesses, let everything be touched by it. Rome was not built in a day. Any transformation of this scale will take time and has to have a multi-phase roadmap. It will also require careful planning of moving from legacy systems and processes to be more cloud-en-abled and digital. At the end, these systems need to interact and converge. So, think micro services and APIs.
