| | MAY, 20254VOL 5 · ISSUE 2 - 5 · MAY, 2025If you're a football fan, you likely remember Germany's unstoppable run in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. After a stunning victory over Brazil in the semi-finals, they edged past Argentina with a thrilling 1-0 win in extra time to claim the title. However, their true secret weapon--the 12th man--was big data analytics. Leveraging SAP HANA, Germany analyzed their average ball possession time and optimized it from 3.4 seconds to just 1.1 seconds. If data analytics could shape a World Cup-winning strategy in 2014, the possibilities a decade later are nothing short of extraordinary. For obvious reasons, organizations across industries can't refrain from using data and analytics to--well, everything. This is precisely why Edge computing continues to redefine data processing. While data center colocation offered scalability, edge computing brought in another dimension by bringing computation closer to where data is generated. Processing data at its source helps to reduce latency and enhances the scope for data analytics in real-time. However, in India, connectivity infrastructure and, in turn, latency have always been a challenge. Fixing this challenge would go a long way in terms of leveraging the benefits of edge computing. It's a great omen that 5G services, since its introduction in October 2022, have been deployed across all States and Union Territories in India. It's impressive how we have already reached 99.6 percent of the country's districts with 5G rollout. As of February 28, 2025, telecom service providers (TSPs) have installed 4.69 lakh 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) nationwide, marking one of the fastest 5G network rollouts in the world. This special yearly issue of CEO Insights sheds light on India's Edge Computing industry landscape.
