| |February 20195VOL 2 · ISSUE 2 - 3 · FEBRUARY 14 - 2019The term 'enterprise software' describes the applications that large companies use to conduct line-of-business operations such as accounting, business intelligence (BI), communication and collaboration, customer relationship management (CRM) and human resources (HR). But that's just the definition to comprehend. Enterprise grade software, however, has a much bigger responsibility than meets the eye. Enterprise software serves a multi-dimension purpose involving the growth of huge enterprises. Besides, global IT spending is expected to grow 3.2 percent by the end of 2019 to USD 3.8 trillion as enterprise software, cloud and digital transformation projects boost growth, according to Gartner. Software development has changed over the span of last 13 years. Today there's less understanding of object-oriented programming, and more technical and functional languages. The processes have moved from Waterfall development with developers and product managers being the smartest people in the room to managers and software engineers having a hard time knowing the twists and turns the product is going through and the need to have more collaboration and interaction which encourages componentization, quicker, smaller releases versus monolithic releases. The advent of the cloud is a trigger to create a different approach to how applications run. Apps are built to scale out reliably through replication. There is a proliferation of programming languages for every type of use. Although, development is fast, there are no standards so integration and skills are still issues. With this edition, we at CIO insider are introducing the top 10 most recommended enterprise software product providers of 2019. I personally believe, the change in the development domain might see ups and downs in the years to come, but these pack of vendors are going to make it through.Do let us know what you think.
