| |August 20195VOL 2 · ISSUE 7-2 · AUGUST 02 - 2019Ever since Apple presented what personal computer can do, almost every aspect of processing and digital technology has evolved. Devices are cheaper, smaller, more portable, and much more powerful. Connectivity is faster, easier, and wireless is growing and available almost everywhere. Communication is instantaneous. Information is everywhere. Shopping online is normal, and often preferred by many. Digital and streamed media is taken for granted. However, one thing hasn't changed: how we authenticate who we are when we log on to devices and access websites and networks. We're still using the same system of user names and passwords that was devised almost 50 years ago at MIT to control the amount of time students and professors could spend on the university's timeshare computer. Rising internet users coupled with increase in use of digital payments is expected to create demand for multi-factor authentication system. Breaching of financial data is a potential threat to banking and FinTech companies, owing to which banking and financial companies are integrating two-factor and multi-factor authentication in the process of digital payment. Moreover, security and privacy threats through malware are constantly growing. For instance, total malware attacks reported in 2017 was USD 9.32 billion all across the world, a rise of 18.4 percent from 2016. This, in turn, is expected to boost the demand for the global multi-factor authentication market. In this digital age, validating identities and controlling access is vital, which is why multifactor authentication has become such a fundamental requirement in so many organizations. Effective identity verification continues to be one of the greatest challenges facing business owners, payment providers, and card issuers. There are simply more risks online now. Some of the companies featured in this edition have made the impossible, possible. These companies have made sure that authentication is taken seriously at every step of the journey. Most of the vendors have taken up crucial methodologies to maintain the standards of enterprise level secrecy. Few renowned names are being challenged by few other new but fairly competent and promising entrants. I certainly hope these will give much needed sleep for a secured organization.Do let us know what you think.
