| |September 20185As enterprises build out their digital strategies, IT infrastructure is rapidly evolving to keep up. Throughout all this change, though, the network remains vital. In fact, the network is becoming more critical than ever as connectivity demands skyrocket with mobile workforces, the rise of the internet of things, and the proliferation of cloud applications. Just type, `Enterprise Networking' and the google results will open the city dam of SDN based results on the face. It's no surprise, given the recent development in the organizations' interest to move into Cloud. But here we should not forget, the physical foundation is just as much important as the abstract one, i.e. software. Like `High Performance Computing', we might consider `High Performance Networking' too as a conjured up thoughts of monstrously-sized network infrastructures, hundreds or thousands of servers collaborating over an extremely fast and esoteric low-latency network, complex parallel processing systems and obscure programming languages. Typically these tools were only seen in exclusive capital markets conferences, molecular research labs, government cryptographic analyses and other very exotic use cases. The ex-orbitant costs of running such systems were typically affordable only by the financially elite or heavily grant-endowed. More than the affair of expenses, its now a matter of demand for huge enterprises. They require this kind of scale and speed to keep pace with their constantly accelerating operations. To that end, companies are ramping up their networking infrastructure through high end networking hardware. In this edition of CIO Insider, lets take some time to read about the believers in these changing times. Though the market has gotten little rusty for the hardware defined networking, these vendors remind us how there is no Cloud without the infrsatrycture, and consequently, there is no infrastructure without the hardware advancements.
