Astrome, Dr. Neha Satak's Startup to Offer Low-Cost Internet Services across India

Since laying down a fiber infrastructure is too costly in a country like India, getting internet connectivity to remote areas is even more difficult. This calls for wireless backhaul products that cost low, have high storage capacity, and are equipped with a wide range of coverage. Currently these devices either do not have affordable rates or adequate range, or are prohibitively expensive to deploy.

Astrome, a start-up led by entrepreneur Dr. Neha Satak has invented a wireless product that emits a fiber like bandwidth at a fraction cost of fiber to enable telecom operators to deliver low cost internet services to suburban and urban areas.

Giga Mesh, the wireless product is capable of offering quality as well as high-speed rural telecom infrastructure at five times lower the cost offered by telecom operators. Astrome will offer demonstration of the product to customers of rural and defense connectivity.

The deep-tech start-up which had proved its millimeter-wave multi multi-beam technology in the lab in 2018, has earned a patent for the company in India and the U.S. + Giga Mesh is capable of solving last-mile connectivity telecom needs of the country.

“The Indian Institute of Science played a critical role in helping us interact with investors, providing business mentorship, and providing space to conduct our product field trials,” said Dr. Neha Satak, Co-founder and CEO of Astrome, recalling a weeklong trip organized under the DST-ABI woman startup initiative, which provided her with valuable insights from the US VC ecosystem to prepare for the IPO.

Regarding its upcoming commercialization, the product has already proven its worth in the field and has also integrated with partner products.

Furthermore, the company has earned an ITU-SME award for the most Promising Innovative Solution in Connectivity, whose product also received a major recognition from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Later the product was chosen by Evo Nexus, a prestigious 5G accelerator program sponsored by Qualcomm will assist in the launching of the product in the global market.

The Multi-beam E-band product, incorporates six Point-to-Point E-band radios into a single device, spreading the device's cost across multiple links and helps lower the capital expenditure.

At each connection, the radio provides long-range and multi-Gbps data throughout, where
Automatic link alignment, dynamic power allocation between links, and remote link creation are all features that help operators save money on operating expenses.

As of now, the company is engaged in conducting a field trial at the Indian Institute of Science (university campus), in which the company has already achieved data streaming at multi-GPS speed across the campus.
