Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indore and indeed Madhya Pradesh get a promising news to look forward to when the world resume after the pandemic. The institution receives an Rs.100 crore grant from the Department of Science and Technology to establish a Technology Innovation Hub (TIH). With the biggest grant it has ever received, IIT Indore will enable the TIH play a pivotal role in development and commercialization, largely focused on various aspects of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), including System Simulation, Modelling & Visualization.

“The externally funded grant, which highest in the

11 years of existence of the institute, was an outcome of meticulous assement of the proposals received in response to the call under National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems (NM-ICPS),” says Dr. Pavan Kumar Kankar, an IIT Indore faculty member.

Dr. Pavan is also a member of the core interdisciplinary team that prepared IIT Indore’s proposal that implicates innovation through Simulation Hub for Technologies in Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical System, (DRISHTI-CPS). The panel also includes Dr. Bhupesh Kumar Lad, Prof. Abhinav Kranti, Dr. Abhishek Srivastava, Prof. Sandeep Chaudhary, Dr. Ankur Miglani, Dr. Bhargav Vaidya and Dr. Kiran Bala.

The CPS refers to interacting digital, analog, physical, and human components engineered for function through integrated physics and logic. Coupled with IoT deployments, data analytics and artificial intelligence, these systems are capable of taking autonomous decisions. The applicability of CPS is on a sky-rocketing trend around the globe and the

The TIH at IIT Indore is now poised to directly contribute to the development of skilled human resources in the niche technology area. It will leverage the grant through not only knowledge sharing and an entire gamut of methodologically crafted training programs, but also grant challenges, hackathons online courses, tinkering activities, workshops and impressively more. In addition, the hub will also support and tag along the iconic initiatives of the union government including Skill India (SI), Make in India (MII), Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP), Start-up India and the recently introduced Atmanirbhar Bharat.
