Starbucks to Implement AI to Counting System

Starbucks is implementing a new inventory counting system that employs artificial intelligence technology across its over 11,000 company-owned locations in North America by the close of September.
The system utilizes workers who scan inventory shelves using a handheld tablet that is equipped with software designed to automatically tally items and identify those that are in low supply.
Starbucks Chief Technology Officer Deb Hall Lefevre stated that the system allows for quicker restocking and improved reliability of in-store products, like cold foam, oat milk, and caramel drizzle. Customers can have drinks how they like, every time - and partners dedicate less time in the backroom and more time creating and engaging.
Lefevre stated that the technology has been implemented in thousands of stores, leading to inventories being counted eight times more often.

The announcement stated that NomadGo's technology represents a "distinct combination of on-device 3D spatial awareness, computer vision, and augmented reality."
Starbucks stated that the launch is a component of a broader strategy to enhance its supply chains.
