India Building Its Cybersecurity Resilience

India's cybersecurity landscape is becoming increasingly complex as the country's digital economy continues to expand. Although the rapid growth of digital payments, cloud adoption, artificial intelligence, and online public services has given rise to several new opportunities, but it has also widened the scope for cyber threats. According to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), more than 2.94 million cybersecurity incidents were reported in 2025, up from 2.04 million in 2024, highlighting the growing scale of attacks. Sectors such as banking, healthcare, manufacturing, and government are increasingly being targeting through phishing campaigns, ransomware, identity theft, and data breaches.

There has also been an increase in Organizational spend on cloud security, zero-trust architectures, and employee awareness programs to improve resilience against evolving threats. However, significant challenges remain, including a shortage of skilled cybersecurity professionals, uneven cybersecurity maturity across organizations, and the emergence of AI-powered cyberattacks.
Going forward as India's digital transformation accelerates, building a strong cybersecurity ecosystem through collaboration between government, industry, and academia will be essential. Strengthening cyber resilience is no longer just a technical priority but a fundamental requirement for protecting economic growth, critical infrastructure, and public trust in the country's digital future.
