Adani Cement and the Finnish firm Coolbrook revealed plans to implement the world's first commercial ‘RotoDynamic Heater’ to enhance cement decarbonization at the Boyareddypalli Integrated Cement Plant located in Andhra Pradesh.

This signifies the initial industrial-scale implementation of Coolbrook's RDH technology, propelling Adani Cement toward its target of reaching net-zero by 2050 (verified by the SBTi) and helping Coolbrook aim to reduce 2.4 billion tonnes of yearly carbon dioxide emissions globally in heavy industry sectors.

This implementation is anticipated to directly cut 60,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, with the possibility of a tenfold increase over time, representing a significant advancement in reducing carbon in cement production.

“The initial commercial use of Coolbrook's RotoDynamic Heater in our operations signifies a crucial milestone in our decarbonization efforts. This represents a significant step forward in reaching our net-zero objectives," stated Vinod Bahety, CEO of Cement Business, Adani Group.

Significantly, the RDH system will draw its energy solely from Adani Cement's extensive renewable energy resources, guaranteeing that the industrial heat produced is entirely free of emissions.

"By incorporating these advanced electrification technologies into our cement manufacturing, we are hastening the transition from fossil fuels, significantly lowering emissions, improving the use of renewable energy, and establishing a new benchmark for sustainable cement production," he stated.

Our goal is to establish RotoDynamic Technology as the leading industry standard for reducing carbon emissions in difficult-to-decarbonize sectors

This technology will reduce carbon emissions during the calcination phase, which is the most fossil fuel-dependent stage of cement production. The technology facilitates a much greater replacement of fossil fuels with sustainable alternatives by supplying clean heat to dry and improve the heating value of alternative fuels.

"Initiating the world's first industrial-scale project with Adani Cement signifies a pivotal advancement for industrial electrification in one of the globe's key cement markets," stated Joonas Rauramo, Coolbrook's CEO.

"Our goal is to establish RotoDynamic Technology as the leading industry standard for reducing carbon emissions in difficult-to-decarbonize sectors. Together, we are transforming the way cement is made — cleaner, more efficient, and prepared for a net-zero future,” Rauramo stated.
