Currently, the talk of town is that Amazon.com Inc intends to be more aggressive in determining whether types of content violate its cloud service policies, such as those prohibiting the promotion of violence, and enforcing their removal.

To go forward with the initiative, the company plans to add a small group of experts in its Amazon Web Services (AWS) division in the next months to develop expertise and collaborate with independent researchers to watch for potential risks.

However, the new AWS team's goal is to keep ahead of emerging threats, such as rising extremist groups whose content may find its way onto the AWS cloud, rather than going through the huge volumes of content that corporations host on the cloud.

The proactive approach to material follows Amazon's suspension of social media app Parler from its cloud service shortly after the Capitol riot earlier this year for enabling information that supported violence.

Additionally the company has already commenced recruiting a global head of policy on the AWS trust and safety team, as it tends to safeguard against a variety of abuse

While political conservatives criticize the limiting of free expression, activists and human rights organizations are increasingly holding websites and applications accountable for harmful content, as well as the underlying technology infrastructure that allows those sites to function.

The use of AWS services for a variety of objectives is now prohibited, including illegal or fraudulent activity, inciting or threatening violence, or supporting child sexual exploitation and abuse, according to the company's acceptable use policy.

But first, Amazon expects users to either remove content that’s not in alignment with its policies or implement a mechanism for content moderation. If all else fails, the company stated that it plans to take down the website as a last resort.

In fact AWS Trust & Safety strives to keep AWS customers, partners, and internet users safe from unscrupulous actors that try to abuse or illegally use our services. When AWS Trust & Safety receives information about abusive or unlawful activity, they investigate immediately and work with customers to take appropriate action.

At the moment, it’s heard that the company is working on a strategy for dealing with content challenges that it and other cloud providers are increasingly facing, such as determining whether disinformation on a company's website has reached a size that necessitates AWS intervention.

Additionally the company has already commenced recruiting a global head of policy on the AWS trust and safety team, as it tends to safeguard against a variety of abuse.

A move that is expected to rekindle discussion about how much authority tech companies should have over free speech restrictions.
