OpenAI IIT Delhi, IIM Ahmedabad, Others to Build AI-Ready Talent
OpenAI has formed partnerships with six prestigious higher education institutions in India to integrate artificial intelligence into the foundation of campus culture, with the goal of cultivating a cohort of graduates equipped to thrive in an economy centered around AI technology.
The initial group encompasses various fields such as management, medicine, engineering, creative disciplines, and multidisciplinary education.
This group comprises prestigious institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, and Pearl Academy.
The program is structured to extend beyond mere availability of AI resources. Rather, it is centered on assisting students, educators, and personnel in utilizing AI to enhance their education, enhance critical thinking skills, and expedite research, all while adhering to principles of responsible use and academic integrity.
Raghav Gupta, the Head of Education for OpenAI India, emphasized the importance of adapting to the changing nature of workplaces. He pointed out that approximately 40 percent of fundamental skills are anticipated to undergo transformation by 2030, primarily due to advancements in AI technology.
Gupta underscored the critical role of educational institutions in facilitating the integration of AI tools into practical use by individuals. The partnership anticipates providing assistance to over 100,000 students, faculty, and staff in the upcoming year. This initiative aims to implement campus-wide access to ChatGPT edu, onboarding processes, discipline-specific support, and customized responsible-use guidelines for each participating institution.
AI capabilities will be integrated into the daily academic processes, encompassing advanced guidance and programming, as well as data analysis, simulations, case studies, and research assistance. Additionally, this endeavor will incorporate hackathons, development sessions, and projects involving the transition from research to implementation, ultimately leading to industry events that bridge campus innovations with emerging businesses and large corporations.
IIM Ahmedabad and Manipal Academy of Higher Education will introduce OpenAI certifications as part of their offerings, establishing organized paths for artificial intelligence education in various business and interdisciplinary programs.
OpenAI is working with education technology platforms such as Physics Wallah, upGrad, and HCL guvi, along with university campuses, to introduce organized courses on the basics of AI and real-world applications of ChatGPT. The goal is to broaden the understanding of AI among students and young professionals nationwide.
The areas of focus differ among the six institutions. IIT Delhi will prioritize engineering research, prototyping, and innovation linked to industry.

Meanwhile, IIM Ahmedabad plans to integrate AI into various management disciplines such as strategy, finance, entrepreneurship, and public policy. The partnership at Aiims New Delhi will involve in-depth investigation into AI-powered medical training, encompassing simulated learning experiences, clinical record-keeping, and analysis of research findings, all with a focus on ensuring high standards of safety and quality.
The Manipal Academy will emphasize interdisciplinary research endeavors and the promotion of widespread understanding of AI technology in various academic undertakings. UPES is devising a strategic plan to incorporate AI into various disciplines such as engineering, business, law, design, and health sciences, effectively establishing it as an indispensable component of both its academic curriculum and operational framework.
