Get ready to hear Bollywood's all-time iconic and veteran movie star Amitabh Bachchan as Amazon’s Alexa’s new male voice. With this, the company plans to lure more users from the world’s second-largest populous country.

Although the collaboration with Bollywood's Big B began last year, like most events, the collaboration was postponed and Amazon's engineering teams were compelled to operate remotely on this project. Including a few other issues that were dealt with as well.

Alexa may be triggered by a single word wake alert anywhere in the world. Whereas, in the case of Bachchan, Amazon has implemented a two-word wake-up technique for Alexa which is ‘Amit ji’.

Users in India can add the Bollywood legend's voice to their Echo devices (starting today) or Amazon shopping app for an introductory price of Rs.149 for the first year, according to the company, which launched Samuel Jackson's voice on Alexa in the United States in 2019.

The 78-year-old actor is sharing personal stories, poems from his father, tongue twisters, and inspiring messages with Amazon. Customers may also ask Alexa to play music, set alarms, obtain weather updates, and answer questions in Bachchan's trademark way.

Even though there is no direct pre-recording, the company claims it is using neural speech technology to make Alexa sound like Bachchan.

Bachchan rose to fame as Bollywood's top actor in the 1970s, portraying characters who struggled with corruption and social injustice. He's also done a slew of commercials for everything from hair oil to biscuits to cold beverages to jewelry, state tourism, banks, and a UNICEF-backed polio vaccination campaign.

He further went on to say that, “we had to invent and reinvent practically every aspect of speech science like wake word, speech recognition, neural text-to-speech, and more to create the world's first bi-lingual celebrity voice”.
