Oracle, a US-based computer technology company is about to spread its public sector business footprint in India, including its Mumbai and Hyderabad certified cloud areas to be utilized by the federal government and public sector.

The government and different public sector entities in India will not only use its cloud applied sciences but transfer their workloads onto Oracle’s cloud infrastructure, no sooner the ministry of electronics and data expertise stamp their approval.

According to Oracle, many Indian state governments, including those of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, already use Oracle on-premise alternatives.

Various sectors, such as industrial taxation, energy (meter knowledge administration), social justice (courts), city native bodies, health, and locomotive works, are Oracle's potential.

“To support this growth in our public sector business, we are going to increase our workforce”, says Kumar

Many ministries, including those in charge of business affairs, railways, and finance, use Oracle solutions. Oracle's clients include the Centre for Railway Information Programs, Delhi Metro Rail Company, Earnings Tax Division, Indian Council of Agricultural Analysis, and Indian Oil Company.

The Earnings Tax Division’s decision to automate tax filing in order to improve efficiency and compliance resulted in a significant increase in the total number of people filing returns, according to Oracle. Oracle's functions, database, consulting, and partners have helped it process two.5 million returns per day.

Oracle believes that government agencies and public-sector enterprises will benefit from Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, which includes access to Oracle's Autonomous Database, which uses machine learning and automation. It may also enable governments to maintain a live disaster recovery site while also transferring critical data at a lower cost.

“Oracle has been an integral part of India's growth strategy for nearly three decades.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is already benefiting a lot of customers,” says Shailender Kumar, senior vice president, and regional managing director, Oracle India.

“Oracle has a long history of collaborating with government agencies and organizations, so the current partnership will almost certainly be beneficial. It has further developed native knowledge centers throughout the country, ensuring that information sovereignty is protected. Its primary goal is to assist its customers to update their existing Oracle infrastructure”, states Sanchit Vir Gogia, founder and principal analyst, Greyhound Analysis.

“To support this growth in our public sector business, we are going to increase our workforce”, says Kumar.

Gartner's 2021 CIO survey for governments indicates that, more than half of government chief information officers (CIOs) aim to increase their cloud spending. It highlights how the key issue driving this rapid shift to the cloud is the innovation, agility, and scalability that the cloud can provide. It will be fascinating to observe if any vendor's options are capable of demonstrating value for money if it wishes to flourish in the public sector.

“Value effectiveness, as well as a faster return on investment, are critical indicators that the seller should consider,” said Apeksha Kaushik, principal analyst, Gartner.

IDC reports that competition is fierce in India's lucrative public cloud services industry, which weighed $3.6 billion in 2020 and is expected to reach $9.5 billion by 2025, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 21.5 percent from 2020 to 2025. Currently, Oracle competes against Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and IBM Cloud, among other public cloud providers. Analysts believe it does, however, have advantages.
