Uttar Pradesh Government to Set Up India's Sixth Semiconductor Unit

The Uttar Pradesh government’s efforts to woo investment got a major boost as the Union cabinet gave its nod to set up India’s sixth semiconductor unit near the Jewar airport in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area.

HCL and Foxconn will establish the initial semiconductor facility in Uttar Pradesh. It is anticipated to attract an investment of Rs.3,700 crore.

Five semiconductor facilities are currently in advanced stages of development under the India Semiconductor Mission. The sixth unit advances India's progress in establishing a strategically important semiconductor industry.

The suggested HCL-Foxconn facility will produce display driver chips for smartphones, laptops, cars, computers, and various other display gadgets. Intended for 20,000 wafers monthly, it will boast an output capacity of 36 million units each month.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Union Cabinet's endorsement and described it as a significant move towards 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' in a message on X.

Applauding the initiative, Pilibhit MP and Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada remarked that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of establishing India as a center for the semiconductor industry is becoming a reality.

He expressed his gratitude to the prime minister for choosing Uttar Pradesh for this significant unit that would generate numerous jobs. An electronics center is also being developed at YEIDA, he mentioned.

“It’s a great achievement that a company like Foxconn is investing in Uttar Pradesh. We hope Foxconn will invest further in Uttar Pradesh,” said UP chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh.

Revealing the Uttar Pradesh Semiconductor Policy 2024 last year, the state government declared incentives for the semiconductor manufacturing sector to position the state as a favored destination for investment in this field.
