Perplexity Partners with PayPal

According to reports, Perplexity is partnering with PayPal to let users make purchases directly in chat. U.S. customers will soon be able to book travel, buy products, and secure concert tickets without leaving the platform.
Payments will be processed in the chat via PayPal or Venmo, with PayPal managing processing, shipping, tracking, and invoicing. Purchases will be finalized with a single click, utilizing the payment provider’s passkey checkout.
Ryan Foutty, Perplexity’s vice president of business, says, “Perplexity aims to be present wherever users seek answers and make choices. Our aspiration for assistive AI is that everything improves and simplifies for individuals, regardless of their location and the way they choose to make choices."
Perplexity entered the e-commerce space last year by introducing a shopping feature for paid users in the U.S. and partnering with sellers utilizing platforms like Shopify.
Currently, Perplexity enables users to perform transactions directly within a chat, a capability that OpenAI’s ChatGPT has not yet implemented.
PayPal is vying for AI contracts with firms such as Stripe, Visa, and Mastercard.
In April, Visa, Mastercard, and PayPal, three major payment providers in the U.S. —sequentially started to introduce new tools for incorporating artificial intelligence into online transactions.
