To benefit the welfare of society, edtech firm WhiteHat Jr joined forces with CRY (Child Rights and You), a non-governmental organization, to encourage children to create real-world mobile applications crying social content. CRY will then award the participants by certifying or recognizing them for their contribution to society with the creation of mobile apps.

The senior leaders from CRY will engage with the edtech firm’s students to persuade them to be actively involved in social causes.

“We are delighted to be working with WhiteHat Jr on this worthy cause. A first step toward finding answers for a better tomorrow is ensuring that our younger generation is more attuned and sensitive towards youngsters with different levels of privilege,” stated Kreeanne Rabadi, Regional Direct - West, CRY.

WhiteHat Jr is well known for its platform of educating students on coding and mathematics, and with this partnership the edtech firm can collectively be involved in social good in its own accord.

“Every month, we receive hundreds of ideas from students who want to create mobile applications to aid the needy or contribute to society. We are thrilled to join with CRY to reinforce this not-for-profit worldview among children,” said Karan Bajaj, Founder and CEO of WhiteHat Jr.

Its curriculum encourages students to think critically about and try to solve problems that they encounter in the real world. The outbound project, as it's known, is based on a child's suggestion.

Hundreds of mobile apps focused on social impact themes, such as food donation, blood/organ donation, elder care, education, helping people with physical/mental challenges, emergency care, child support, Covid-assistance apps, and more, have been created by students over the last two years at WhiteHat Jr.

The edtech firm's acquisition by Byju's only happened last year, and it was one of the biggest merger and acquisition deals in the Indian startup sector in 2020. While there could be various reasons for the purchase, WhiteHat Jr's constant growth and $150 million annual run rate (ARR) in the first few months of FY21 seems to pique Byju's interest.

The edtech's revenue from operations in its first full year of operations was Rs 16.2 crore.
Its total assets increased to Rs 64.2 crore in FY20, with 85.4 percent of its assets kept in bank balances and fixed deposits.

WhiteHat Jr's greatest cost centre, which accounted for one-third of the company's yearly expenditure, was business marketing charges, which included commission and incentive payments. These costs increased to Rs 23.8 crore in FY20, up from Rs 32.3 lakhs in FY19.

By this partnership with CRY the edtech firm is empowered to enable its young minds to produce content that benefits the society. “Every month, we receive hundreds of ideas from students who want to create mobile applications to aid the needy or contribute to society. We are thrilled to join with CRY to reinforce this not-for-profit worldview among children,” said Karan Bajaj, Founder and CEO of WhiteHat Jr.
