The fintech startup Stripe has begun incorporating OpenAI's most recent GPT-4 artificial intelligence (AI) model into its products for processing digital payments.

The information was released in response to OpenAI, a company sponsored by Microsoft, announcing that GPT-4, a new iteration of the same AI technology behind ChatGPT's chatbot phenomenon, will be released.

The Stripe action highlights the interest of major corporations in incorporating AI into their product offerings as one of the first known integrations of OpenAI's new technology.

According to Emily Sands, head of information at San Francisco-based Stripe, 14 GPT-4 prototypes are now under development.

Instead of needing to look through developer documentation, the initial service will allow Stripe's software developers to submit a question and obtain condensed responses, according to Sands.

According to Stripe, OpenAI will also purchase credits for the DALL-E image-generation product as well as charge consumers for services like ChatGPT Plus and other subscriptions.

Another experiment, she continued, will let Stripe's customers speak naturally when asking questions about their business metrics rather than having to create database queries.

As part of the GPT-4 beta, Stripe has also participated. Initially, the company concentrated on improving the documentation so that developers could submit natural language questions inside of Stripe Documentation. GPT-4 responds to inquiries by either extracting specific information or summarizing the pertinent portions of the material. Developers can now spend more time building instead of reading.

Meanwhile, as OpenAI prepares to commercialize its ChatGPT and DALLE generative AI technologies, Stripe has landed an agreement to power payments for OpenAI.

According to Stripe, OpenAI will also purchase credits for the DALL-E image-generation product as well as charge consumers for services like ChatGPT Plus and other subscriptions.

It's still uncertain if businesses will be able to successfully commercialize their products and charge users for them as the AI market becomes more competitive.
