In India, the aerospace industry is growing significantly with the rising activities from both the defense and civil aviation sector. The Indian aerospace & defense (A& D) market is projected to reach $70 billion by 2030, driven by the burgeoning demand for advanced infrastructure and government thrust. Domestic air travel demand continued an upward trend in the country, and there is an increasing demand for large aircraft from Indian carriers. The government is also increasing India's defense allocation each year. Indian aerospace & defense sector is also attracting world attention. The country is ranked 19th among the world's defense exporters in attracting foreign investments. Till the date, India's space & aviation program has been a government backed effort, with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) leading the way. But today, things are changing with the emergence of a clutch of space technology startups. Today, there are about 120 active startups in this field compared to only a handful before 2014. About 64 percent of space or aerospace startups have been launched in or after 2014. ISRO's continued effort to reduce the manufacturing and production cost of satellite resulted in the new wave of space technology startups breaking-off across India. This was a main turning point for Indian defense and aerospace sector. Indian defense and aerospace sector started gaining global attention; this is evident from the statistics. India's defense export increased 700 percent in two years from $204.13 million in 2016-17 to $1.44 billion in 2018-19, and is expected to generate revenue worth $4.70 billion from aerospace & defense exporting.
