
Aadhaar Authentications Cross 229 Crore in June

In June 2025, Aadhaar number holders conducted an unprecedented 229.33 crore authentication transactions, reflecting a significant rise compared to both the prior month and the corresponding time last year.
The information published by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) underscores Aadhaar’s growing function in facilitating digital public infrastructure and broadening the accessibility of government and private services.
The June figures reflect a 7.8 per cent year-on-year growth compared to June 2024, taking the cumulative number of Aadhaar-based authentications past 15,452 crore since its inception. The continuing rise in transactions underscores Aadhaar’s significance in streamlining service delivery and promoting digital inclusion.
Among the various authentication modes, AI/ML-powered face authentication has seen remarkable growth. In June 2025 alone, 15.87 crore face authentication transactions were recorded—over three times the 4.61 crore logged in June 2024. So far, the modality has been used 175 crore times, reflecting its growing adoption across both Android and iOS platforms.

Face authentication provides Aadhaar holders a secure and frictionless method to verify their identity with just a facial scan and its extensive use by over 100 government departments, financial institutions, oil companies, and telecom service providers.

The data reaffirms Aadhaar's position as a key enabler of India’s digital economy and a facilitator of ease of living for millions.

The artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML)-based Aadhaar face authentication solutions developed in-house by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) – responsible for issuing a 12-digit unique identification number called Aadhaar to all residents of India – too witnessed a consistent growth. In June, a record number of 158.7 million face authentication transactions were recorded, as against 46.1 million such transactions a year ago.
