ABB declared that it is speeding up the creation of gigawatt scale next-generation data centers in partnership with NVIDIA.

Innovation will emphasize the creation and implementation of advanced power solutions necessary for establishing efficient, scalable power distribution for upcoming AI workloads.

The development and research projects will aid NVIDIA's intended launch 800 VDC power architecture for 1 megawatt server racks.

Achieving this level of power efficiently necessitates significant improvements in power distribution technologies and design. Future power architectures for data centers will integrate a medium voltage (MV) uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with direct current (DC) power distribution to the server room utilizing solid-state power electronic devices.

Giampiero Frisio, President of ABB Electrification says, “ABB is spearheading the advancement of essential new power distribution technologies that will establish the next era of data centers. We invested early in advanced UPS, DC, and solid-state electronics that will allow data centers to meet the increasing power needs of AI. This partnership promoting the advancement of 800 VDC systems for upcoming data centers represents one of several methods we are interacting with the data center community to meet the demands of this evolving market.”
