Adani Energy Solutions Wins Rs. 47 Billion Maharashtra Power Project

Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) said that it has won a Rs. 47 billion ($492.6 million) transmission project in Maharashtra, strengthening the Adani Group’s efforts to expand its clean-energy infrastructure and support India’s growing renewable power capacity.

The project will transmit up to 4,500 MW of renewable and energy-storage power and is scheduled to be completed within 36 months, the company said in an exchange filing.

The project will add 562 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s portfolio. It is designed to facilitate the transmission of renewable energy generated in Karnataka to major load centres in Maharashtra while supporting the development of the state’s pumped-storage ecosystem.

The infrastructure will serve the Satara and Pune regions as well as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, helping strengthen the grid’s ability to integrate renewable and storage-based power.

As part of the project, AESL will develop a new substation in Satara, establish a transmission line connecting Kolhapur and Satara, and undertake upgrades to the Kolhapur pooling station.

The project comes as India accelerates investments in its electricity transmission network to accommodate the rapid expansion of renewable energy. The country aims to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030, requiring significant additions to transmission infrastructure and grid connectivity.

The expansion of pumped-storage capacity is also becoming increasingly important as India seeks to manage the intermittency of renewable sources such as solar and wind. Transmission infrastructure connecting renewable generation hubs with major consumption centres will play a crucial role in enabling this transition.
