Adityanath, Tata Sons Chairman Discuss AI City Plan

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met with Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran to assess the status of Tata Group's current projects in the state and to discuss potential expansions and new investment opportunities.

Reports indicate that the meeting involved extensive discussions on lasting collaboration in areas like artificial intelligence (AI), information technology, electronics, defense manufacturing, energy, renewable energy, electric vehicles (EVs), tourism, skill development, and the digital economy.

In the conversation, Chandrasekaran suggested creating an 'AI City' in Lucknow, the state capital, with the goal of establishing Uttar Pradesh as an international center for artificial intelligence, according to the reports.

The initiative aims to enhance the startup ecosystem and create thousands of job opportunities centered around emerging technologies.

Both parties also assessed the advancement of a Rs 48-crore Centre of Excellence being established in Gorakhpur, aimed at offering enhanced technical training and opportunities, especially for the youth from the Purvanchal area.

According to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IIT Kanpur, Tata Group projects will prepare young people in new fields like AI, cybersecurity, data science, 3D printing, drones, and space technology, contributing to the development of a workforce ready for industry, the statement indicated.

Talks were conducted regarding the establishment of a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in the region and the growth of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) branches in Lucknow, Noida, and Varanasi. The plan to expand the workforce at TCS' centres in Lucknow and Noida from 16,000 to 30,000 was seen as a substantial enhancement to the digital talent available in the state.

In electronics production, the Tata Group showed interest in increasing investments in mobile devices, electronic parts, and various advanced technology products, pointing to the swift development of Uttar Pradesh.

The team provided information on project expansion through the Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority (BIDA) and pledged complete support aligned with the state's defense priorities

The discussion also addressed a partnership with Intel to enhance the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in the state.

It also noted the discussion on increasing investments in electric buses, EVs, and new vehicle models.
Regarding defence manufacturing, the Tata Group suggested boosting investments in drones, missiles, and defense vehicles throughout different locations of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, such as Jhansi.
