Amaravati Set to Get India's First Quantum AI University
The government of Andhra Pradesh has sanctioned a dedicated Quantum and Artificial Intelligence university campus in Amaravati, costing Rs 730.7 crore. The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) will carry out the project, operating under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
The campus will cover an area of 8.5 acres. The investment is scheduled over five years and is intended to be entirely financed by grants from the Centre.
The larger goal, however, extends further than establishing another university. The campus is being developed as a center where education, research, semiconductor technology, start-ups, and advanced technological skills converge.
Learners will not be restricted to traditional computer science classes. The suggested programs will encompass quantum computing, quantum communication and security, artificial intelligence and machine learning, data science, semiconductor fabrication, chip design, VLSI, semiconductor assembly and testing, embedded systems, and high-performance computing.
Students and researchers will have the opportunity to collaborate with businesses and start-ups. The campus will additionally facilitate technology transfer, generate intellectual property, and foster incubation

A key component of the project will be its Quantum Research, Innovation, and Incubation Hub.
The facility will span approximately 1.2-1.25 lakh square feet. It is anticipated to accommodate infrastructure for quantum communication and computing, quantum photonics, quantum security, cryogenic systems, and high-performance computing.

It will include cleanroom and nano-fabrication spaces, semiconductor technology resources, chip-design areas, data centres, and room for start-ups. The concept is to reduce the gap between a research article and a market-ready product.
