Ecommerce giant Amazon India announced the expansion of 'Project Ashray', launching 40 additional rest centres for all delivery partners nationwide in partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

Ashray centres provide dedicated rest areas for delivery associates, featuring air-conditioned seating, clean drinking water, mobile charging stations, washrooms, and first-aid kits.

With the recent expansion, Amazon currently runs 65 Ashray centres in 13 cities, comprising 24 in Delhi-NCR.
"These Ashray centres tackle the daily hurdles delivery partners encounter while dealing with heavy traffic and severe weather," stated Salim Memon, Director, Amazon Operations, India.

The Ashray (which translates to shelter in Hindi) centers aren’t limited to Amazon’s own delivery partner network. Stakeholders in the e-commerce and logistics ecosystem can access these services.

Situated at gas stations and commercial rental locations, these centers provide vital facilities. Ashray centres function from 9 AM to 9 PM, every day of the week, throughout the year, providing free access to all arriving delivery associates for up to 30 minutes each visit.

The growth occurs as Amazon prepares for the holiday season, having just revealed the addition of more than 150,000 temporary job openings across its operational network.
