Apple Pay has debuted in India, enabling users to make payments via iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, with Mac support expected to arrive shortly.

Upon launch, customers with Visa and Mastercard credit cards from Axis Bank can register their cards on Apple Pay and utilize them at both in-store and online retailers throughout India, as well as at any location that supports NFC payments.

Apple announced that customers can utilize the service for payments in stores, apps, and online without needing to enter PINs or employ one-time passwords (OTPs) during checkout.

"India boasts a vibrant and digitally knowledgeable population that actively adopts a cashless future while demanding top-notch security and privacy standards, and we’re thrilled to introduce Apple Pay to users in India today,” stated Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice-president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet.

Bailey mentioned that Apple Pay enables users to tap for in-store payments without needing another app, PIN, or OTP, and lets them make online purchases without constantly inputting payment details.

Amitabh Chaudhry, Managing Director and CEO of Axis Bank, stated that the launch of Apple Pay would provide the bank’s credit card customers with enhanced options and flexibility within the Mastercard and Visa networks.

Customers can link a qualified card to Apple Wallet via the newest version of the Axis Bank app. Users can open the Wallet app on an iPhone, select the plus sign, and follow the prompts to include a card.

To make payments in stores, users can double-tap the side button or Home button, verify their identity with Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode if necessary, and place the iPhone or Apple Watch close to the contactless terminal.

Apple Pay is usable for in-store transactions on an iPhone or Apple Watch without needing a Wi-Fi or cellular connection. The service utilizes the device's NFC chip to link with the payment terminal.

A transaction might not show in the history until the device goes back online or connects to cellular service.

Users can also buy items using Apple Pay on iPhone and iPad within apps or online. Assistance for Mac is anticipated shortly.
