Audi India is evaluating the local production of a battery electric vehicle (BEV), with the luxury automaker relying on a three-pillar approach to increase its market share in the segment within the next three to five years to 15-16 percent, according to reports.

Audi India Brand Director Balbir Singh Dhillon detailed the strategy for India, focusing on three main aspects: prioritizing customers, launching new products, and expanding the network, aiming to increase its market share in the luxury car sector from approximately 8 percent.

The German car manufacturer aims to utilize the suggested India-EU free trade agreement (FTA) to introduce more models in India and assess market demand, while also growing its dealership network, especially in tier-II and tier-III cities.

Dhillon mentioned that we are considering a locally produced BEV electric vehicle, with a decision anticipated within the next few months.

He elaborated, stating, "Our plan is to increase our market share twofold in the next three to five years." Customer focus, innovative products, and network growthcombined, we think will enable us to double our market share in the coming three to five years.

Dhillon mentioned that the suggested India-EU FTA might allow Audi to bring additional models to India with lower import duties, enabling them to assess their sales potential prior to deciding on local production.

Dhillon stated that the firm would keep depending on domestic production for its main offerings, whereas imports could assist in broadening the selection of vehicles accessible to Indian consumers.

He also highlighted the possibility that the suggested EU-India free trade agreement (FTA) could generate export chances for the broader Indian automotive sector.

"We will have a chance to export the vehicle, not specifically Audi, but the Indian automobile sector, and as you know, we are unlocking 95 percent of the markets on each side," Dhillon says.
