AWS and Microsoft Azure to Transfer Workloads to India and Singapore
AWS and Microsoft Azure could redirect data center tasks from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Oman to India and Singapore due to the conflict in West Asia.
Hyperscalers are looking for urgent capacity in Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi to shift essential workloads, particularly for banking customers.
On March 2, drones hit two AWS data centers in the UAE and one in Bahrain, impacting local banking applications, disrupting airport operations in Dubai and Kuwait, and leading to the closure of the UAE stock market because of technological failures.
As per AWS status updates, 25 services remain ‘disrupted’ and 34 are ‘degraded’ in the AWS Middle East (UAE) Region (ME-CENTRAL-1).
International reports indicate that a Microsoft Azure site in Tehran could have been attacked, yet Microsoft has not reported any interruptions.
Experts, such as Piyush Somani from ESDS, indicate that India and Singapore maintain robust subsea connections and that although the changes may be short-lived, they might encourage investment as companies implement disaster recovery strategies.
