BEML Targets Major Rail and Defence Expansion
India’s BEML Ltd. is aiming to build an order book exceeding Rs.31,000 crore (approximately $3.3 billion) during the current fiscal year, reflecting the company’s ambitious growth plans across rail, metro, defence, and mining sectors.
The state-owned engineering and manufacturing company is positioning itself to capitalize on a strong pipeline of upcoming infrastructure and defence projects while expanding its presence in emerging technology-driven segments.
According to Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy, BEML expects nearly Rs.40,000 crore worth of new projects to receive approvals in the financial year ending March 2027.
The company is targeting the acquisition of more than one-third of these opportunities, which would significantly expand its current order book of around Rs.16,600 crore.
Achieving this goal would nearly double the company’s existing project pipeline and strengthen its long-term revenue visibility.

Rail and metro projects are expected to remain the primary growth drivers, contributing approximately 70 percent of the total order book, compared with around 65 percent currently.
Defence is projected to account for nearly 20 percent, highlighting BEML’s increasing focus on supporting India’s defence modernization efforts. The company also expects its mining and earthmoving equipment businesses to contribute meaningfully to future growth.
Despite a favorable outlook, BEML remains cautious about global uncertainties, including geopolitical tensions and supply-chain disruptions that could impact project execution and procurement. Roy emphasized that diversification across multiple business segments remains the company’s most effective strategy for managing risks and maintaining resilience.
