Through a webinar, Prof. (Dr.) Harish Hirani, Director, CSIR-CMERI and ShriVishwa Mohan Jha, Director, MSME-DI, Patna, deliberated upon the latest CSIR-CMERI developed COVID 19 technologies with focus on Water Purification Technologies.

Despite the double digit growth of water treatment and conservation business in India, making MSMEs, which account for almost 50 percent of the manufacturing activity in the country, adopt the latest technologies and reaping the overall benefits of it have always been a demanding ask for the government.

This precisely was the main objective of the Webinar – to make the industries/ entrepreneur under MSMEs aware of the technologies developed by CSIR-CMERI, provide total engineering solutions, and the facilities available in CSIR-CMERI.

Prof.Hirani engaged the attendees thorough a highly analytical presentation on the array of CSIR-CMERI technology interventions. In the process, he also opined that the primary focus should be to invest in building the local talent pool so that India is ready to handle the influx of S&T and Manufacturing demand in the most capable manner. He says, “This will also help in sustaining the local communities as well as creating Socio-Economic solutions for region specific problems. India can achieve new heights through carefully developed Design Thinking, which emphasizes building strong fundamentals for a regionally diverse nation like ours.”

The manifestation included the technologies like the Plasma Arc Medical Waste Disposal System, which can substantially help in the disposal of the large quantities of disposable masks that is currently bugging the Civic Waste Management Authorities amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. The technology of Intelli MAST, Hospital Care Assistive Robotic Device, Contactless Soap-cum-Water Dispenser, Battery Operated Disinfectant Sprayers, and Mechanized Ventilator with Oxygen Concentrator were also exhibited. These open new avenues for the MSME sector to sustain itself.

Founded in 1958 to develop national mechanical engineering technology, particularly in order to help Indian industries, CMERI is the only national level research institute in the field of mechanical engineering in India.
