Cognizant started constructing a new 8,000-seat technology campus in Visakhapatnam, representing one of its biggest planned expansions in India, and launched an interim techfin center in the city with a capacity for 1,000 employees.

The technology and professional services company listed in the US announced that the new facility will be constructed in three phases by 2033, involving a total investment of Rs 1,583 crore.

The initial phase's construction is set to begin in 2026 and will house 3,000 employees upon its completion in early 2029.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stated at the ceremony, ‘We are excited to greet Cognizant in Visakhapatnam, a significant milestone in our goal of turning Andhra Pradesh into a premier destination for global companies to establish, innovate, and expand.”

Nara Lokesh, the Minister for IT and Industries in the state, stated that the growth “will create new chances for our youth and enhance the city’s status as the state’s financial hub.”

Cognizant's CEO, Ravi Kumar S, stated that the initiative showcases the company's trust in the local talent pool. “The launch of our new campus and the establishment of a temporary techfin centre in Visakhapatnam demonstrate our belief in the city's talent and future opportunities,” he stated.

The temporary techfin center, which will act as Cognizant’s operational hub until the primary campus is completed, will emphasize artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital engineering, and cloud services. It features a client engagement area and shared work environments.

The growth comes after Cognizant's recent openings of delivery centers in Bhubaneswar and Indore, along with a techfin hub in Gujarat's GIFT City. India continues to be an essential component of the company's international delivery operations, with established centers in key cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, and Delhi-NCR.
