Cognizant Enhances AI Workforce to Accelerate Adoption
Cognizant announced it will increase its total of frontier-certified engineers to 5,000 and frontier business operators to 10,000 as the need for these positions surges with companies striving for higher AI adoption in enterprises.
The Nasdaq-listed firm stated that it will reveal its initial group of frontier-evaluated and deployment-prepared engineers in the fourth quarter. It also aims to enhance its frontier talent pipeline by annually recruiting frontier-native talent from universities in the U.S. and around the world.
"Bridging the AI outcome gap requires individuals who not only possess a profound understanding of a client’s industry but can also innovate the structure of work and assume comprehensive responsibility for achieving results in partnership with clients, regardless of the model or cloud chosen by the client," stated Chief Executive Officer Ravi Kumar.
A phrase popularized by the American data analytics firm Palantir, frontier deployed engineers (FDEs) are software engineers integrated directly into the customer's environment to tailor the technology company's software solutions for clients' issues.

Cognizant's frontier model is based on six principles: interdisciplinary expertise; a direct connection to customer value; integrating, deploying, or collaborating with agents as standard; end-to-end responsibility; delivery via a compact operational pod; and a cohesive, unified Cognizant experience for clients.

TeamLease Digital reports that demand is increasing at substantial double-digit percentages. During the initial three quarters of 2025, the demand for FDE jobs surged by almost 800 percent, although starting from a low level, demonstrating the importance of this position.
