Giesecke+Devrient (G+D), a global SecurityTech company headquartered in Munich, Germany, today announced its collaboration with Rivian to enable the launch of Rivian’s upcoming R2 vehicle with GSMA SGP.32–enabled eSIM technology and 5G connectivity.

Rivian’s R2 will be among the first vehicles globally to launch with support for GSMA SGP.32, the newly finalized eSIM standard designed specifically for IoT and automotive use cases. This architecture allows Rivian to seamlessly add or change MNO partners over time as the vehicle expands into new regions, without requiring hardware changes.

SGP.32 enables a single-SKU approach, allowing automakers to deploy vehicles globally while significantly reducing the complexity traditionally associated with managing multiple MNO integrations across regions. As part of the collaboration, Rivian will leverage G+D’s automotive-grade eSIM hardware and eSIM IoT Remote Manager (eIM) infrastructure to support a secure, scalable, and future-ready connectivity platform.

AT&T will serve as Rivian’s initial mobile network provider in the U.S., delivering robust 5G connectivity to power in-vehicle services, over-the-air updates, and future digital innovations. For customers, these results in a seamless and reliable digital experience, as connectivity-enabled features, updates, and services can be delivered consistently throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle.

This collaboration brings together a technology-driven automotive manufacturer, partnered with leaders in both connectivity and eSIM solutions

BeekGek Lim, Global Head of Business Line Digital Offerings for Giesecke+Devrient says, “SGP.32 represents a major step forward for the automotive industry. With G+D’s secure eSIM hardware and compliant remote management capabilities, Rivian can deploy a single global hardware SKU while retaining full flexibility to manage connectivity remotely and securely throughout the vehicle lifecycle. We’re proud to support Rivian as one of the early adopters bringing this new standard to market.”
