Global Chess League Season 4 Set to Take Place in Bengaluru

The Global Chess League (GCL) announced that its fourth season will be held in Bengaluru beginning September 3, marking another significant milestone in the league’s efforts to elevate chess as a global spectator sport.

A joint initiative of Tech Mahindra and the International Chess Federation (FIDE), the GCL has redefined the traditional format of the game by introducing franchise-based teams, mixed-gender lineups, and fast-paced matches designed to engage a wider audience.

Since its inception, the league has attracted some of the world’s leading chess players and has played a key role in bringing innovation and entertainment to the sport. Season 4 will continue this vision, featuring elite players from across the globe competing in an exciting team-based format that blends strategy, skill, and competitive intensity.

Dvorkovich further added that the league would bring together the world’s best players while strengthening fan engagement both in India and internationally

Speaking on the announcement, Gourav Rakshit, Commissioner of the Global Chess League, said, “The Global Chess League was created to transform chess into a truly global spectator sport. Bringing Season 4 to Bengaluru feels like a defining moment, not just for the league, but for the evolution of the game itself. This is where the next chapter begins.”

FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich expressed enthusiasm about hosting the tournament in ndia’s technology hub. “We are delighted to bring Season 4 of the Global Chess League to Bengaluru. India continues to be at the forefront of the global chess movement, and Bengaluru provides the perfect setting to build on this momentum,” he said.

Dvorkovich further added that the league would bring together the world’s best players while strengthening fan engagement both in India and internationally.

Previous editions of the tournament have featured renowned Indian stars such as R Praggnanandhaa, D Gukesh, and chess legend Viswanathan Anand, highlighting the country’s growing influence in the global chess ecosystem today.
