Google Cloud, Liberty Global Enter Five-Year AI Partnership

Google Cloud, a rapidly expanding division of Alphabet, and Liberty Global have formed a five-year strategic alliance to implement Google's Gemini AI models and various cloud solutions throughout the cable group's European operations.

Liberty Global, boasting around 80 million fixed and mobile connections in Europe, announced that the deal - first reported by Reuters on Tuesday - will enhance new consumer services, like AI-driven search and discovery on its Horizon TV platform, along with automation in customer service.

"Liberty Global's extended collaboration with Google Cloud marks an important achievement," states Mike Fries, CEO of Liberty Global.

The firms will additionally provide more Google items like Pixel smartphones and smartwatches, along with smart-home gadgets via Liberty's operating divisions, which comprise Virgin Media O2 in the UK, Telenet in Belgium, VodafoneZiggo in the Netherlands, and Sunrise in Switzerland.

The pact broadens the current partnerships between the two companies.

Liberty Global announced that the new initiative is designed to enhance network dependability and safety, advance autonomous network operations, and possibly enable Google Cloud to utilize excess capacity in Liberty's data centres, including through its AtlasEdge partnership.

The firms stated that the collaboration would also focus on small-business clients using cloud, cybersecurity, and AI services, and explore methods to monetize Liberty's telecom data while upholding privacy regulations.

Collaborations involving AI have surged throughout the telecom industry as providers aim to cut network expenses and explore new sources of income, all while continuing significant investment in fiber and 5G technology.
