Google India and BCCI Collaborate to Deliver AI insights for IPL 2026

Google India has joined forces with the Board of Control for Cricket in India to incorporate its AI-driven Search Mode into the Indian Premier League 2026, under an agreement that designates the company as an official premier partner.

The integration will allow fans to obtain real-time insights, tactical analysis, and historical data during live matches, accessible within broadcast feeds and via Google Search.

The function aims to enable users to pose conversational inquiries about match scenarios, player performance, and game tactics, evolving from traditional scorecards to more comprehensive and engaging analysis. It will enable fans to revisit previous matches, assess captaincy choices, and view AI-created overviews of important moments.

Devajit Saikia mentioned that the effort would radically change the fan experience, whereas Shekar Khosla noted that the action indicates an increasing demand for more profound and interactive sports analysis.

The collaboration arises during a wider initiative by tech platforms to integrate generative artificial intelligence into real-time sports experiences to boost engagement and retain users.

In other developments, Storyboard18 investigated the functioning of the business model within the Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL has transformed into a multi-billion-dollar sports entertainment entity, with franchise values now competing with global leagues.

From the viewpoint of a franchise owner, income is mainly divided into central and team-related sources.
A significant portion originates from the central revenue pool overseen by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This encompasses revenue from media rights and title sponsorships. The BCCI keeps 50 percent of this pool and allocates the other 50 percent to franchises, according to reports.

The BCCI generates approximately Rs.5,000 crore from media rights and Rs.500 crore from title sponsorships, which constitute the foundation of the league’s financial framework.

Furthermore, teams produce their own income through sponsorships, ticket sales (gate revenue), and merchandise.
