Government Approves Tex-RAMPS Scheme
The Indian Government has sanctioned the Tex-RAMPS Scheme, which focuses on research, assessment, monitoring, planning, and start-ups to enhance research, innovation, and competitiveness in the textile industry.
The project has a total expenditure of Rs. 305 crore (US $ 34.11 million) allocated for the duration from FY 2025-26 to FY 2030-31, coinciding with the next Finance Commission cycle. It will be executed as a Central Sector Scheme, completely financed by the Ministry of Textiles.
Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh, announced that the Tex-RAMPS initiative aims to integrate research, data, and innovation to strengthen India’s textile sector and establish the country as a global leader in sustainability, technology, and overall competitiveness.
The initiative aims to safeguard India's textiles and apparel sector for the future by tackling essential shortcomings in research, data systems, innovation assistance, and skill enhancement.
It emphasizes the advancement of research in smart textiles, sustainability, and new technologies, while also striving to enhance process efficiency. It additionally calls for the establishment of enhanced data systems, such as employment evaluations, supply chain mapping, and the India-Size study, to facilitate evidence-driven policymaking.

A key element of the initiative is the Integrated Textiles Statistical System, a data and analytics platform designed to improve organized oversight and informed decision-making. The initiative also aims to enhance capacity building via State-level planning assistance, sharing of best practices, training sessions, and industry-specific events.
Moreover, it encompasses measures for supporting start-ups and innovation by providing aid to incubators, hackathons, and partnerships between academia and industry to foster valuable textile start-ups.

He mentioned that when functional, the Tex-RAMPS Scheme would greatly boost the global competitiveness of the Indian textile and apparel industry by reinforcing the innovation ecosystem, fostering the emergence of promising start-ups, and instilling a deeper culture of quality throughout the sector.
He mentioned that the program’s six-year timeline would enable companies to strategize more efficiently on optimizing its benefits for their activities.
