Gujarat Signs Letter of Intent with Starlink
The Gujarat government has made a significant move to enhance digital infrastructure by signing a Letter of Intent (LoI) for collaboration with Starlink, a SpaceX subsidiary, to broaden high-speed satellite internet access throughout the state.
The LoI was shared in Gandhinagar under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, in line with Gujarat’s wider efforts to promote the Digital India initiative, particularly in rural, tribal, and disadvantaged areas.
According to the agreement, Starlink will assist Gujarat’s Digital Connectivity Mission and Strategic Initiatives by delivering satellite internet to regions where traditional networks are still restricted. The initial phase will include Common Service Centres (CSCs), e-governance amenities, government educational institutions, district disaster management centers, ports, and wildlife reserves.
The project is anticipated to significantly contribute to advancing digital inclusion in tribal and aspirational regions like Narmada and Dahod, as well as boosting connectivity for police stations, disaster response centers, wildlife observation units, and agricultural research institutions.
The LoI also details strategies to enhance smart education in public schools and facilitate quicker implementation of telemedicine and health services at Primary Health Centres (PHCs). Moreover, collaborative training initiatives will be implemented to enhance digital skills within government sectors, educational institutions, and emergency response teams.
