HCL Inaugurates its First Development Centre in Sri Lanka

Indian IT major HCL Technologies invests in Sri Lanka through its first Development Centre in the country. Adhering to the new norms, the event was hosted online with participation from delegates like Sri Lankan Prime Minister H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was the chief guest and online inaugurator of the Development Centre, and H.E. Gopal Baglay, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, among other special guests.

Minister talked about the country’s endeavors to accord priority to the IT sector in order to guide Sri Lanka in the path of becoming a technology hub. He also viewed that the presence of a global IT major like HCL in the country will boost such endeavors, while creating a great amount of employment opportunities for the youth population in the country. He concluded by congratulating HCL’s management team and conveying his best wishes for the project.

In his comments at the event, the High Commissioner observed, “HCL’s presence in Sri Lanka would help in empowering the youth through creation of jobs and enabling the transfer of knowledge and skills. The lighting of the lamp during the inauguration ceremony symbolized the illumination of the Sri Lankan economic landscape by the talent and ability of young Sri Lankan ideapreneurs.” He added, “India shares her capabilities with all friends and partners and India would continue to develop its multi-faceted cooperation with Sri Lanka for progress and prosperity in the region.”

HCL in fact had kick started its operations in Sri Lankan in June this year, marking its presence in the region. According to the company, it plans to create over 1,500 new local employment opportunities within the first eighteen months of its operations from its Colombo office. A predominant aspect of HCL’s business and development strategy in the country will revolve around recruiting local talent pool for global assignments, the company had said in June.
