HCLTech announced a partnership with artificial intelligence company Anthropic to accelerate the adoption of agentic artificial intelligence (AI) across enterprises, with a focus on safety, cybersecurity and governance.

As part of the collaboration, HCLTech will establish a dedicated business unit and a centre of excellence to develop and deploy agentic AI solutions for businesses. The initiative aims to help enterprises integrate AI-driven capabilities into their operations while addressing concerns around security, responsible deployment and governance.

HCLTech's teams will develop industry-specific solutions and integrate Anthropic's AI products, including Claude, Cowork and Claude Code, into enterprise applications and workflows. The collaboration is expected to combine HCLTech's technology services expertise with Anthropic's AI capabilities to support organisations exploring the use of autonomous AI systems.

Agentic AI refers to systems that can plan, make decisions and execute multi-step tasks with limited human intervention. Unlike conventional AI tools that primarily respond to individual prompts, agentic systems can coordinate activities, use tools and complete complex workflows. Businesses are increasingly exploring these capabilities to improve productivity, automate processes and support decision-making.

However, the adoption of agentic AI also raises concerns about data security, system access, accountability and the risks associated with autonomous decision-making. The partnership's emphasis on safety, cybersecurity and governance reflects the importance of establishing safeguards as enterprises move towards deploying AI agents at scale.
