IBM Upgrades Hybrid Cloud Offering with New Data & Automation Capabilities

IT industry pioneer IBM announces the launch of a set of data and automation updates to its hybrid cloud software portfolio. With the new update, the company is bolstering its IBM Cloud Pak for Data and Cloud Pak for Automation, promising integrated data & AI capabilities that run on Red Hat OpenShift. The company claims that the new stack is designed to better manage and automate data-intensive processes by coupling the intelligence of Watson AI in hybrid cloud environments. The idea is however to help organizations scale by accelerating digital transformations.

In a statement, Michael Gilfix, Vice President, Chief Product Officer, Cloud Paks, IBM, said, “Cloud Pak offerings are integrated with AI and give companies a consistent experience from Pak to Pak. And because they run on Red Hat OpenShift, clients can deploy and manage them on any cloud environment, be it on-premises, and/or public cloud. With today's announcements, we're driving automation and data management capabilities even farther across the enterprise.”

The features incorporated in the Cloud Pak for Data include new Industry Accelerators for segments like banking, warranty management, supply chain forecasting, & retail; Watson Machine Learning Accelerator (WML-A) which is a new deep learning service capability; and Quick Scan which will enable more scalable automatic data discovery to support deeper analytics.

On the other hand, the new features in Cloud Pak for Automation include the Automation Document Processing, Process Mining capabilities through myInvenio (Cognitive Technology), and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) capabilities from IBM's acquisition of WDG Automation.
