India, Italy Join Hands for Co-Op in Combating Financing of Terrorism
Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi had a meeting with H.E. Ms. Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of the Italian Republic during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. The two leaders engaged in brief interaction at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, earlier this June.
Prime Minister Meloni conveyed support for India concerning the terror event in Delhi and emphasized Italy’s firm dedication to collaborate in fighting the menace of terrorism. In this framework, both leaders embraced the 'India-Italy Joint Initiative to Combat Terrorism Financing'.
The project seeks to enhance bilateral partnership in combating terrorism and working together on international and multilateral platforms such as the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the Global Counter Terrorism Forum (GCTF).
The leaders evaluated and favorably appraised the progress in the bilateral Strategic Partnership spanning areas like trade and investment, defense, security, space, science and technology, education, and interpersonal connections.

Both leaders conveyed their contentment with the advancements of the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29.

The leaders praised the two Business Fora organized in New Delhi and Brescia this year, noting strong participation from the relevant industries. The leaders acknowledged the continuous initiatives to boost business, technology, innovation, and investment collaborations focused on improving the competitiveness of both economies and creating robust supply chains.
The two leaders anticipated furthering their discussions and collaborating on multilateral and global stages to promote their common principles of democracy, the rule of law, and sustainable development
Prime Minister Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s robust backing for finalizing a mutually advantageous India-EU Free Trade Agreement and for the success of the AI Impact Summit that India will host in 2026.

The visit reinforced the custom of consistent high-level communications between the two nations.
