Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy emphasized that India's shift to electric mobility needs to be inclusive and financially viable, prioritizing affordability and scalability in both urban and rural areas.

During the launch of the industry-driven platform, Light Electric-Vehicle Acceleration Forum (LEAF), Kumaraswamy, the Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, stated that future efforts should extend beyond merely increasing the number of charging points.

"What we require at this moment is dependability, accessibility, and, above all, compatibility. We need to ensure that India's transition to electric vehicles is both inclusive and economically viable," he stated.

The minister additionally stated, "Our strategy must remain centered on consumer affordability, industry viability, and scalability across urban and rural markets."

He stated that light electric vehicles will continue to be crucial, as they are the main transportation option for millions of Indians.

Kumaraswamy stated that India has a genuine chance to take the lead, both within the country and on the world stage.

“If we are able to create affordable and scalable solutions in this area, we can implement them in our emerging markets in Asia, Africa, and Latin America that have comparable mobility requirements,” he stated.

The minister emphasized that the success of this transition will ultimately rely on robust collaboration between the industry and the government.

He guaranteed that the government will persist in offering policy support, fostering innovation, and enhancing manufacturing ecosystems.

Kumaraswamy stated that industry partnerships, such as those demonstrated through LEAF, will be essential for achieving tangible results.

LEAF can evolve into more than merely a platform. He added that it can act as an example of how teamwork can bring about significant transformation throughout the whole ecosystem.

LEAF is an unbiased, industry-driven group dedicated to enhancing the EV charging framework to promote the uptake of electric two-wheeled and three-wheeled vehicles.
