Next month, India will receive an invitation to participate in a US-led initiative focused on securing AI supply chains, the new US ambassador to New Delhi stated.

Relations among the allies have deteriorated following US President Donald Trump's imposition of 50 percent tariffs on a majority of Indian imports in August due to New Delhi's acquisitions of Russian oil, even while officials persist in negotiating a long-stalled trade deal.

While addressing reporters at the US embassy, ambassador Sergio Gor stated that India would be invited to join the Pax Silica initiative as a full member, which was introduced by the United States last month.

The US-led initiative involves important Asia-Pacific allies -- Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Australia -- in addition to Israel, and aims to challenge China's increasing influence in AI supply chains.

Called the "Pax Silica," named after the Latin words for peace and silicon, the coalition seeks to ensure supply chains of essential components that are independent of China.

"With the world's embrace of new technology, it is crucial for India and the United States to collaborate closely from the outset of this initiative," states Gor, prior to his first day on the job.

Gor, who referred to India as "an essential partner" for the United States, stated he came with a directive to elevate the relationship, describing it as a convergence of the "world's oldest and largest democracies".

The ambassador emphasized the close relationship between Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"The United States and India are connected not only through mutual interests, but by a relationship rooted at the highest echelons. Genuine friends may have disagreements, but they ultimately settle their disputes," Modi stated.
