Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tried out 'Mappls' - a fully Made-in-India intelligent navigation application created by MapmyIndia. The minister experienced the app's capabilities directly, highlighting how indigenous technology is now aligning with international standards.

Mappls provides various intelligent tools like 3D junction visuals, live driving notifications, and precise doorstep navigation, enhancing the safety and intelligence of road travel. Users can estimate travel expenses beforehand, receive notifications about accident-prone areas and bumps, and also obtain real-time information on traffic lights and CCTV camera locations.

Vaishnaw revealed that an MoU between Indian Railways and Mappls will be signed shortly, paving the way for the app's technology to be utilized in railway systems.

This showcase occurs as India enhances its Swadeshi technology ecosystem, promoting local innovation in vital areas such as digital infrastructure, AI, and manufacturing. The government's strategy has been to not only support local applications but also guarantee data protection and lessen reliance on foreign technologies.

The action becomes important due to increasing global trade uncertainties and the risk of digital tariffs, as nations re-evaluate the operations of technology platforms and the locations of data storage. By supporting homegrown innovation, India is conveying a strong message that it will not completely yield to the control of Big Tech. Rather, it seeks to establish a sustainable, safe, and competitive digital space that safeguards both national priorities and user information.
