Karnataka Government Launches AI Workforce Impact Study

The Karnataka government initiated an 'AI workforce impact study' in preparation for the implementation of its new ,IT policy 2025, aiming to evaluate the effects of AI on the job market, and encouraged the industry to contribute their insights.

Karnataka’s IT and Biotech Minister Priyank Kharge states, “The Department of Electronics, IT and Biotechnology has initiated a thorough examination to evaluate the effects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the workforce of the state. This project will shape the forthcoming IT Policy 2025 and inform strategic measures under our leading skilling initiative, NIPUNA Karnataka.”

Minister Kharge continues, “As Karnataka spearheads India’s technological advancement - with Bengaluru placed #5 globally in AI and Big Data ecosystems and hosting over 100,000 AI professionals - the state is emphasizing evidence-driven policymaking to foster inclusive and future-ready growth.”

“Our technology workforce has surpassed 1 million professionals, and Bengaluru is recognized as India’s premier AI hub. However, as AI transforms sectors, we must ensure that our workforce is not neglected,” Kharge remarks.

“This research is crucial for comprehending the changing job market, guiding effective skilling investments through NIPUNA Karnataka, and safeguarding our most precious resource - our talent. I encourage industry leaders to contribute their perspectives,” Kharge adds.

A survey on AI’s influence in the workforce is seeking input from industry leaders, HR executives, technology experts, and academia. Its goal is to reveal how AI is integrated into daily operations, which sectors are seeing significant changes, and which job roles are most at risk of automation.

This data will assist the government in identifying skill gaps, defining new roles, and developing policies that are future-proof, promoting innovation while ensuring workforce stability.
