The Maharashtra government annulled the temporary licence granted to several motorbike aggregators for not meeting specific criteria, according to state transport minister Pratap Sarnaik.

During his speech in the legislative council, Sarnaik stated that the e-bike policy aims to provide jobs for local youth, noting that in states such as Goa, tourists favor bikes since they are more affordable for an individual compared to taking an autorickshaw or taxi.

He mentioned that in August 2024, the cabinet allowed e-bikes to operate in cities with populations exceeding one hundred thousand.

As per the Maharashtra E-bike Taxi Regulations 2024, it was essential for the vehicles to be electric. In addition, the aggregators were requested to meet specific criteria within 30 days.

We are rescinding the temporary licenses to ensure that unlawful bikes do not take to the streets," says Sarnaik.

Sarnaik stated he has instructed that instead of filing cases against the bike riders, the owner should be held accountable
