The government is accelerating the establishment of 50 artificial intelligence curation units within ministries and departments to analyze non-personal government data held by line ministries, identify high-value datasets, and incorporate them into the IndiaAI Datasets Platform, referred to as AIKosh.

"The government is concentrating on varied datasets, which encompass health statistics, agricultural surveys, geospatial maps, and additional data in critical sectors like logistics, demographics, and the environment," an official from the electronics and IT ministry (MeitY) stated.

Locating and refining these frequently disjointed data sets and making them accessible for AI modeling that can deliver distinct applications has been a major objective. Officials stated that although the initiative to establish the curation units began almost two years ago, it has progressed slowly because of resistance from specific ministries that already have a robust data collection and management system in place.

By consolidating these diverse data sets, MeitY aims to create more intelligent AI models that can truly impact society—envision improved public services and enhanced decision-making in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and logistics.
