Meta Forms New AI Engineering Team
Reports indicate that Meta is forming a new applied AI engineering team that will work alongside the Superintelligence Lab to speed up the development of AI models.
The revised structure will include a team responsible for creating interfaces and tools, alongside another group focused on executing tasks, generating data, and providing evaluations for the modeling teams, as mentioned in the report citing a memo from Meta.
The report mentioned that Maher Saba, a vice president at Meta’s Reality Labs division, will oversee the project.
"Developing outstanding models requires more than merely researchers and computational resources; it demands actual data, input, and assessments," Saba noted in the memorandum.
This defines the process that turns a strong model into a top-tier one. Lately, we have noticed considerable advancements in reinforcement learning and post-training, and we believe there’s a real opportunity to speed up and lead by enhancing these efforts.
During the summer of 2025, Meta launched its Superintelligence Lab to concentrate on the company's core models, product innovation, Fundamental AI Research (FAIR), and the following evolution of its models.
Around the same period, it was revealed that Meta stopped hiring AI experts following an extensive recruitment effort in which Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg played a significant role in the company’s AI hiring activities and, in certain cases, extended nine-figure salary proposals.
In January, reports suggested that Meta planned to reduce 10 percent of its workforce in the Reality Labs division as part of a wider strategy to redirect the company’s focus from virtual reality products toward other AI wearables.
